Caminho do Ouro

Description

A mega experience along this path that takes visitors to the heart of the Atlantic Forest and the origins of the city of Petrópolis/RJ. Known by various names: Vila Inhomirim x Petrópolis Crossing, Slave Path, Proença Shortcut, Gold Path... A Historical Heritage site registered by INEPAC, this path was opened in 1723 by Bernardo Proença, a wealthy landowner at the foot of the mountain, who brought gold from Minas Gerais to Rio de Janeiro. This section walks through history. Along this trail, various historical attractions can be observed, such as the cart road of Serra da Estrela, considered at the time the "most grandiose work of the Empire of Brazil" and the first railway in the country, still active today, connecting the Port of Mauá to Vila Inhomirim (now Raiz da Serra). The beauty of the well-preserved forest, in a beautiful section of the Serra dos Órgãos National Park (PARNASO), makes this hike even more stunning.
