Cânion Monte Negro

Description

The Cânion Monte Negro is the most famous attraction in São José dos Ausentes, in Rio Grande do Sul. With easy access, it is the most visited of the municipality's 8 canyons. The Cânion features grand landscapes, being 700m deep, 1km wide and about 4km long, marking the border with the state of Santa Catarina. From there, you can climb the Pico Monte Negro, the highest point in RS.

Route

The Cânion is about 40km of dirt road from São José dos Ausentes, with parking on site. The route can range from 1.5 to 4km, walking along the edge of the Cânion. The route is easy and mostly flat, with a steep climb only for those who want to go up the Pico Monte Negro.
