Mirante da Cascatinha
Description
This trail is literally a work of art. The small waterfall that gives the lookout its name has been the subject of numerous paintings by artists invited by the former owner of the area, Visconde de Taunay. The painter was part of the French Artistic Mission of 1816. In 1855, another historical landmark appears on this trail: the Mayrink Chapel. The Mayrink Chapel is located on the Historical Circuit, which explores 150 years of reforestation in Tijuca. The Cascatinha Lookout is part of the Peaks Circuit, which leads to still little-explored peaks in the region. The trail, lasting 1h30, is of medium difficulty. With a vigorous ascent, it allows for rest stops but has uneven terrain and stepped paths. In the end, the lookout offers a view that includes not only the Cascatinha but also the Pedra do Conde, the Pico da Tijuca, and a small part of the Port Zone of Rio.
