Mirante do Inferno

Route

The trail starts at the Barragem do Parnaso, in Teresópolis, along the same trail as the Pedra do Sino. Easy section up to the Véu da Noiva. Continuing the climb, farther ahead, there is an open clearing good for resting and eating. Climbing a little more, there is a rock wall on the right and a rock on the left with a beautiful view. On reaching the Cota 2000, leave the main trail and go down to the left on the path toward the Pedra da Cruz, Paredão Paraguaio and Vale das Orquídeas. Going down, take the path on the right that goes around a rock (Caminho das Orquídeas). A steep descent with some smooth rock slabs begins. Here a denser forest begins, with some streams, until you reach a clearing (Paquequer campsite), where mountaineers and climbers stay overnight. (A place to refill your water bottle.) Passing the campsite and continuing on the trail, after crossing the river farther ahead, a climb begins until you reach a rock on the left that serves as a lookout over the city. Then there is a fork where the left goes to São João and the right to the Mirante do Inferno. Climb a little more and you will be at the col of the Mirante.
