Parque Lage x Corcovado
Description
The trail from Parque Lage offers the privilege of connecting two must-see tourist spots in Rio de Janeiro: Parque Lage and the world-famous Corcovado. The park houses a mansion with a picture-perfect frame pointing towards Christ the Redeemer. There are also lakes, artificial caves, an aquarium, and an acoustic tower built for the lyrical singing practice of the mansion's former owners throughout the gardens. The vegetation surrounding the building includes over 140 species of trees, many of which are rare. Along the route, you can find easily accessible waterfalls. Corcovado was already a tourist attraction in 1824 when D. Pedro I ordered a trail to be opened connecting Cosme Velho to the peak. Since then, the mountain became a mandatory visit for the Portuguese Court, and even Charles Darwin used the trail to reach Corcovado. In 1884, D. Pedro II enhanced the visit by inaugurating the Corcovado Tourist Train. At the end of the line is Christ the Redeemer, which has a fee for access but offers a panoramic view of the city: Lagoa, Sugarloaf Mountain, Ipanema, Leblon, Copacabana, Morro da Urca, Flamengo, and Guanabara Bay.
