Pico dos Três Municípios

Route

The trail proper starts to the left of the Fonte da Sede. From this point on, it gets steeper most of the way. You pass the dry river and keep climbing through alternating areas of forest and bamboo thickets. At one point, you skirt a rock wall on the left. And you keep climbing up to about 1,900 meters of elevation, where the vegetation changes and shrubs start to dominate. Continue through them until you reach a clearing, ideal for a short break to rest and regroup. From this point, the descent begins through a small patch of forest, with some downhill sections over marshy ground, and the trail crosses the stream further down. Shortly after, the forest changes again to a valley of tall grass. After crossing the grass in the valley, the climb up the Três Municípios begins. Once again the vegetation changes to shrubs and bromeliads, among other plants more typical of high-altitude grasslands. During this last part up to the summit, there are a few friction slab sections, which require some attention. After about 4 hours of climbing, the spectacular view from the summit is our reward.
