PR 8 - Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço
Description
This captivating 3 km trail (+ 3 km return) invites you to explore the eastern tip of the island, offering breathtaking panoramic views over both the north and south sides. PR 8 - Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço is a moderately challenging trail, typically taking around 2:30 hours to complete as it winds along the stunning peninsula of the same name. The semi-arid climate and exposure to northern winds contribute to the sparse vegetation and lack of trees in this unique landscape, creating a striking contrast with the lush areas of the island. This region is classified as a Partial Nature Reserve, safeguarding rare plant species and a diverse array of fauna. In addition to hosting one of the largest colonies of seagulls in the area, Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço is a sanctuary for protected seabirds, including shearwaters and Bulwer's petrels. With a bit of luck, you might even spot marine species in their natural habitat, such as the elusive monk seal. After your hike along Vereda da Ponta de São Lourenço, treat yourself to a refreshing swim at Cais do Sardinha, the perfect way to conclude your adventure.
