Torres de Bonsucesso e Torre Oculta

Route

The starting point for the trail is a paid parking lot (20 Reais). The walk goes uphill along a small road to a "kiosk", with a restroom and running water. After passing through a small wooden gate, a well-trodden trail begins, heading into the Atlantic Forest on a slight incline. The climb gets steeper and there is a series of steps until the trail leaves the Atlantic Forest and continues along the crest of the range, where the vegetation is lower. Soon comes the first fork on the crest, where the path on the left leads to the Torre Menor (Ferro de Passar). Back on the main trail, the trail dips down the "back" of the Torres and climbs again. Further ahead you reach the second fork; going up to the left takes you to the summit of the Torre Central. Returning to the trail to the Torre Maior, continue along the "back" of the towers until you reach a kind of crevice that gives access to the summit of the Torre Maior. This is the most technical section of the trail, a steep climb with several spots with fixed ropes. Near the summit of the Torre Maior there is one last fixed rope, in a section where the trail passes under a rock. In addition to your hands, at this point you need to brace your legs against an opposite wall to climb a vertical wall just over 1m high. The rest of the way to the summit of the Torre Maior is very easy. From the Torre Maior to the Torre Oculta, the walk is along an overgrown trail, although it is well marked. The final climb of the Torre Oculta is done by friction climbing, which requires attention at some points due to the exposure to height. NOTE: - There is no water available along the trail, only near the starting point. Due to the effort required during the activity, it is recommended that each person carry at least 3L of water.
