Travessia da Serra Negra

Route

The trail route starts at the parking lot of the Hotel Fazenda Murycana, in the town of Itatiaia, and follows a well-defined trail to the Pico das Agulhas Negras, the highest point of the Serra Negra, at 2,791 meters. From there, the trail descends the other side of the mountain to the Vale do Paraíba, passing several lookouts with panoramic views of the region. After crossing the Vale do Paraíba, the trail climbs again to the top of the Serra Negra and returns to the starting point. Along the route, you can see several types of vegetation typical of the region, such as Atlantic Forest, high-altitude grasslands and cerrado, as well as animals such as toucans, parakeets, howler monkeys and capybaras.
