Trilha da Muçununga
Description
The Muçununga Trail provides visitors with direct contact with a unique ecosystem, whose name, in Tupi-Guarani, means "soft soil." This environment is formed by low-growing, shrubby, and tree vegetation that develops over sandy soils rich in organic matter and, in some areas, is permanently flooded. The presence of an impermeable layer of laterite, with concentrations of iron and aluminum, hinders water infiltration, maintaining surface moisture. Along the route, it is possible to observe colorful trees, bromeliads, orchids, vines, and a diversity of life forms adapted to these conditions. The soil, resulting from the decomposition of living beings, is also known as peat soil, being highly sensitive to fire and subject to difficult-to-control underground fires. In this unique, rare, and fragile setting, the forest environment transforms before the visitor's eyes, revealing the close relationship between nature, climate, and time. The trail invites contemplation, learning, and respect for this ecosystem essential to environmental balance.
