Description

The Copaíbas Trail is a 4.2 km long route within the Copaíbas Ecological Park, located in the St. de Habitações Individuais Sul - Brasília. The trail is marked, and along it, you can observe well-preserved Cerrado species, springs, access to Lake Paranoá, and a small waterfall, as well as the local fauna. There is a connection to the trails of the Caminhos do Planalto Central, a long-distance trail of the Brazilian Trail Network, through the Arco Brasília.

Route

Access to the trail starts at the entrance gate of the Parque das Copaíbas, on the Estrada Parque Dom Bosco (EPDM) between QI 26 and Q28, until you reach the car parking lot. There is a large trail map there with general guidance for visitors. From the parking lot you can already see the large rustic gateway that marks the start of the Trail. Following the direction of the road, you reach a small waterfall and a bridge. Along this stretch the area is more enclosed, with plenty of large vegetation and gallery forest. Here, you will see the Córrego das Antas. Continuing along the trail, from the highest point, you can see a beautiful view of the city, Lago Paranoá, and houses in the area. There are signs marking side paths where there is a tick infestation. Do not take these paths; follow the signage. At these points there are benches for resting, especially in the area leading to QI 28, another entrance to the Park. Continuing along the route, closer to the lake, you reach the lookout and the Park's rustic sign. Farther ahead, at lake level, after a drop over unstable ground with loose stones (ideally, hold on to the side rope or use trekking poles), you will find the second bridge (this one has signage for the Caminhos do Planalto Central, where the Arco Brasília passes as a long-distance trail (toward the lakeshore - Ponte JK, Ermida Dom Bosco). Following the loop direction of the trail, you reach the second gateway on the route, which is closer to the QI26 access gate. The trail continues in the direction indicated by the signs until it returns to the parking lot through the west entrance.
