Trilha do Corisco
Description
A historic trail used since the 18th century, crossing the border of two important states in the country, linking the municipalities of Ubatuba/SP and Parati/RJ (an important port at the time), used for the transportation of Sugar, Alcohol, and Cachaça from the old Fazenda Picinguaba (Casa de Farinha), and by drovers who crossed the region rich in natural resources. This path was also explored by the caiçara and quilombola communities that inhabited the area, used as a route to the city of Parati for trading goods and manufactured items, acquiring and selling consumer goods, and attending parties and events. In 1957, a marker was established on the trail to demarcate the state border, which remains to this day. Industrialization, the advance of modernity, the implementation of BR 101, the opening of new access routes, and the use of more efficient transport vehicles gradually led to the decline of this path. According to local residents, many grew up traversing this trail as part of their history. Intrinsically linked to the Atlantic Forest biome, cutting through the coastal forest of the Serra do Mar, as well as the Serra do Mar State Park – Picinguaba Sector, the Corisco Trail allows direct contact with preserved nature, passing by more than 20 watercourses, and housing rich biodiversity filled with endemic species. The route is abundant with impressive and stunning flora, featuring centenary trees such as Jequitibá, Jatobá, Figueira, Sassafras Cinnamon, Nutmeg Cinnamon, and Pink Cedar. It is also home to a grand fauna (Puma; Jaguar; Ocelot; Howler Monkey; Peccary; Collared Peccary; Agouti; Cutia; Macuco; Jacucaca; Toucan; Banana Toco Toucan; Bellbird; Surucuá). It is still possible to rest at the viewpoint overlooking Praia da Fazenda and bathe in the Rasa pool.
