Trilha Dois Rios x Caxadaço

Description

The trail from Dois Rios to Caxadaço Beach, section 15 of the Official Ilha Grande Guide, is one of the wildest and most technical sections of Ilha Grande. Unlike the wide roads, here the path is a "real trail": narrow, overgrown with vegetation, and with rugged terrain. Caxadaço Beach is commonly visited on the "Round Island" boat tours, making the trail an alternative for adventurers. You will be in one of the most preserved areas of the island. The sound of the forest is intense, and the humidity is quite high. Prepare to jump over logs, pass under trees, and step on many roots. On days after rain, the mud makes the path very slippery. The trail ends at one of the island's most mystical beaches. Caxadaço is a tiny cove (about 15 meters of sand), hidden behind enormous rocks, which served as a refuge for pirates and slave traders in the past. Be sure to climb the high rocks on the beach. The view of the open sea crashing against the rocks is spectacular.

Tips

Follow the colorful ribbons on the trees if in doubt. Bring a GPS or download the offline map from the app before heading to the trail. Overnight camping is not allowed at Caxadaço. There is a small stream that flows into the beach, but the water may not be potable depending on the season. Bring your own drinking water. ATTENTION: Since overnight camping is not allowed at Praia do Caxadaço, you can pre-book a boat to return to Vila do Abraão or return via trail to Dois Rios and from there to Abraão (in this case, calculate the walking time, which is long, to avoid being caught by night) or from Caxadaço to Lopes Mendes and then to Pouso, where you can camp or stay in rustic inns. The trail to Lopes Mendes is technically demanding and recommended for those with experience. In general, Praia de Caxadaço is an attraction on the Volta da Ilha Grande starting from Dois Rios.
