Trilha Mirante do Sacopã e Mirante do Urubu
Description
Natural beauty, art, and adventure for kids are attractions of the park that provides access to the Sacopã Lookout, located at Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas in Rio de Janeiro. At the foot of the trail, there are activities such as tree climbing, zip-lining, and rappelling. Along the way, you can find 36 outdoor sculptures. At the end of the trail, after a 20-minute easy hike, the reward comes in the form of a stunning view of the lagoon. Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas used to be twice its current size, but several landfills have reduced its perimeter. Try to imagine how far the lagoon extended from the top of the Sacopã lookout. The trail area was once one of the few accesses to Copacabana in the 18th century, at a time when it was a sandy area with very few inhabitants. The path ended at a small bay, now nonexistent, between the Cabrito and Cantagalo hills. There are also reports that the region housed an indigenous cemetery, likely a remnant of a sambaqui.
