Route

Day 1 The route starts at the Portaria Toca do Lobo, in the municipality of Passa Quatro. After a short hike you reach the Toca do Lobo, where you also cross a stream. After hiking through a section of montane forest, you reach the ridges of the massif, where you walk through high-altitude grasslands with impressive views of the Vale do Paraíba, the mountains of MG and the Pico do Capim Amarelo itself, a section known as Passo dos Anjos. Then you reach the Pico do Capim Amarelo (2,392m). • Distance: 4.5 km • Total Ascent/Descent: 963 / 109 m • Max. / Min. / Avg. Altitude: 2,392 / 1,584 / 1,925 m Day 2 The path continues with ups and downs, always above 2,000m, often through forests of “dwarf bamboo”. It passes several peaks, such as Maracanã and Melano, until reaching the Pedra da Mina (2,798m) • Distance: 6.7 km • Total Ascent/Descent: 717 / 395 m • Max. / Min. / Avg. Altitude: 2,798 / 2,257 / 2,464 m Day 3 The most intense day of the traverse starts with the descent from the Pedra da Mina and the crossing of the Vale do Ruah. The hike continues, alternating between high-altitude grasslands, rock formations (which often require “scrambling”) and the characteristic ridges. You pass the Cupim de Boi peak [2,530m], finishing with the ascent of the Pico dos Três Estados. • Distance: 6 km • Total Ascent/Descent: 414 / 557 m • Max. / Min. / Avg. Altitude: 2,798 / 2,394 / 2,513 m Day 4 On the fourth day, you start the descent from the Pico dos Três Estados, and a final ascent to the last mountain of the range, the Alto dos Ivos [2,530m].
