Description

Section 13 marks the end of the Caminhos da Ibiapaba (or the beginning, for those going in the opposite direction). It connects the monumental Cachoeira do Pinga to the locality of Acarape, consolidating the definitive descent of the humid slope of the mountain towards the lowlands and the ecosystem that prepares the ground for the connection with the hinterland. It is a farewell section from the altitude, with striking rural characteristics, in Tiangua.

Route

Unlike the flat rural roads or the top of the plateau from previous sections, Section 13 requires technical attention due to the loss of altitude. The terrain is characterized by a continuous and steep descent along the slope (foothills), with predominantly dirt ground, many loose stones, and ditches opened by rainwater action on the slopes. The landscape bids farewell to the Wetland Forest and reintroduces the shrubland Caatinga, which is more bushy and adapted to the rapid increase in temperature as one descends the mountain. The microclimate visibly changes along the trail, and the cool wind from the plateau diminishes, giving way to the characteristic heat of the lower areas of the region. The great visual spectacle of this section is the perspectives of the immense Ibiapaba wall now seen from below. The natural viewpoints during the descent offer imposing angles of the rocky cliffs. The locality of Acarape serves as the transition and welcoming landmark for the completion of the 185 km crossing. It is a community with marked rural characteristics, where travelers can celebrate the conclusion of their journey.
