Trecho 7 - São João da Fronteira x Santo Antônio da Pindoba

Description

Section 7 of the long-distance trail Caminhos da Ibiapaba connects the urban center of São João da Fronteira to the village of Santo Antônio da Pindoba. This section is of extreme geographical importance, as it marks the beginning of the definitive transition between the Piauí territory and the first elevations leading to the Serra da Ibiapaba. Here, the trail leaves Piauí and officially enters the territory of Ceará, ascending the escarpment of the Serra da Ibiapaba. It is one of the most physically demanding sections, as it involves climbing from the Piauí plain, at about 200m altitude, to the Ceará plateau, above 700m.

Route

Section 7 cuts through the Environmental Protection Area (APA) of the Serra da Ibiapaba. Unlike the sandy and flat soil of the urban perimeter of the previous section, here the traveler begins to encounter terrain with a greater presence of pebbles and loose gravel, characteristic of the beginning of the slopes of the mountain. The relief shifts from being predominantly flat to presenting more frequent undulations and constant inclines, requiring a bit more effort in the ankles and gait. The vegetation landscape undergoes a noticeable change: the shrubby Caatinga is accompanied by taller species and gallery forests near small streams. The name of the destination village, "Pindoba," already reveals the strong presence of this native palm in the region, which frames the final scenery of the route alongside carnauba palms. The endpoint is a quiet and very welcoming community. The village preserves the traditional customs of life on the "border" between two states, where local stories blend with the religiosity and legends of the Ibiapaba region.
