This section marks the transition between Pará and Maranhão, crossing extensive mangroves and traditional communities. In Carutapera, the Minor Basilica of São Sebastião stands out, the first in the state of Maranhão. Built in the 1940s, its construction involved significant popular mobilization and the transportation of materials by artisanal boats, as the region was isolated. Today, the basilica is a symbol of local faith and resilience.
