Parque Natural Municipal de Niterói - PARNIT
Description
The Niterói Mais Verde program, established by Municipal Decree No. 11.744/2014, provided for the creation of the Parque Natural Municipal de Niterói, which incorporated other protected areas and environmentally restricted areas of the municipality of Niterói. The park is divided into 3 sectors: Montanha da Viração, Costeiro-Lagunar, and Guanabara, which encompass 13 areas of environmental, historical-cultural, and tourist importance. As a result, and given its size, the park features a rich and diverse range of ecosystems, including forests, restingas (coastal sandy-plain vegetation), mangroves, marshes, rock outcrops, lagoon ecosystems, islands, and coastal caves. PARNIT offers a wide variety of settings for tourism, sports, and cultural use, such as enjoying the scenic beauty, hiking, adventure racing, mountain biking, paragliding and hang gliding, birdwatching, swimming in the sea, and nature trails, which are one of the park's main attractions.
