Trecho 2: Boca da Barra

Route

The section 2 starts on Caminho Verde Road, in Ogiva neighborhood, on the left side of the Channel of Itajuru, and goes all the way to the private parking lot entrance that leads to Praia das Conchas. On the way you will find forks that leads to the attractions of the park. The trail passes through areas of mangroves, deactivated salt marshes, through the Itajuru Channel, which connects the Araruama Lagoon to the sea and sequences of rocky shores that register a history of over 2 billion years about the South-American continent related to Western African. You will be able to contemplate the local fauna and flora, with occurrence of endemic species such as the cactus white head (Pilosocereus ulei) and the bird: formigueiro-do-litoral (Formicivora littoralis). The total route is around 8 km, if you visit all the attractions of the Park. To get to Ilha do Japonês, there are rowing boats (next to the Trail Totem pole), that do the crossing, is also possible to get to the island walking, on low tide days, specially in the period of full moon. The trail to Farol da Lajinha, requires a minimal physical preparation as it features sections of high altimetry with a steep climb. The way to Praia Brava is flat and the end of the route is made by a stone trail on steep terrain. The trail that leads to Caverna dos Escravos passes through areas of dense vegetation. There are reports of snakes in the Cave, so we suggest to always check the floor before getting in. In the Cave, there are also the presence of fruit bats, that do not present risk to humans. We ask do not perturb the bats, the noise inside the cave bothers the animals, so do not make noise as you enter the cave and do not point the flashlight to the ceiling of the Cave, if the bats fly, keep the head down and continue. TIPS: We recommend to bring a flashlight and a insect repellent, and as a prevention measure the use of facial masks inside the cave to avoid the risk of fungus infection that can proliferate in moist soils.
